A Book of Contractor's Excuses

by Caley O'Dwyer and Jorge Perez-Rubio

These are selected pages for a book that was lightly published and for an exhibition that took place many years ago of a collaborative project by a painter and a poet. Following are a series of illustrations for a variety of reasons why a contractor is not able to finish a job.

On the verge of a divorce...

I'm waiting on your check to clear...

Beeper was not turned on by mistake...

Went to the store...

It takes more time to tailor to your individual needs...

The cabinets are for the kitchen nextdoor...

Had to go to the bathroom...

Lumber is the wrong size...

Tried to call but line was busy...

Too cold...

Your check bounced...

My dog had an accident...

Tiles are the wrong color...

These windows are for the house next door...

Because it's raining...

One of my workers did not show...

My wife was sick...

New friend...

Baby was sick...

This is my first job but don't worry...
